Argument: James issues a severe warning to the
wealthy, urging them to weep and wail over their impending miseries. He
declares that their hoarded riches have rotted, their garments are moth-eaten,
and their gold and silver have corroded; this decay will serve as a testament
against them in the last days. Furthermore, James condemns them for withholding
the wages of their laborers, noting that the workers' outcries have reached the
ears of the Lord of Hosts. He indicts the rich for living in self-indulgent
luxury and ultimately for condemning and murdering the righteous, who offer no
resistance.
